Agriomantra is located 3km west of Kavoussi of Ierapetra, where it belongs administratively. It is a secluded beach at the outlet of a small canyon that begins from the small plateau of Lakos Ambelion. Inside the gorge, there is a cave that has been converted into a temple dedicated to Saint John the Theologian.
A few meters down, you will find a beautiful beach with pebbles and crystal green waters. It is well protected by the small island of Agriomandra to the north. On the beach, there are large tamarisks, ideal for shade, while an area with grills and benches has been laid out.
Agriomantra was originally used as a small harbor during the Venetian period and remains of buildings can be seen all around. Until 1920, the sheltered port was used to transport kernels, livestock, and other goods to Agios Nikolaos, as there was no road network in the area. Here there was a small customs office and a well to pull the water.
