The temple of Agios Nikolaos is located on the northern side of Chryssi Island, at the place where the ancient Porphyra production facilities and tombs have been revealed. It dates back to the 13th century, though it is clear that more recent interventions have been made. The temple is built on the site of an ancient building, perhaps a sanctuary.
The temple was apparently a religious center for the hermits who lived on the island during the Byzantine period and afterward. It is no coincidence that very close to the temple there is a well with holy water and around there are traces of ancient cultures.
