At the easternmost point of the island of Chryssi and on its southern side is the long Vagkes Beach. Vagkes generally have a rocky bottom, except at the eastern end where there is sand. Inflatable boats are frequently anchored at this point because it is windless and ideal for insulation.
The name Vagkes originates from the Cretan word "vagka", which is a great channel. According to the inhabitants, this name is derived from the fact that a large opening is created here through which boats can pass and approach the terrain.
