The Mylonas Gorge is situated on the southern slopes of the pine-covered Thrypti Mountain beneath Agios Ioannis village of Ierapetra. The descent of the canyon from Agios Ioannis is interrupted by four high waterfalls and is, therefore, impossible to go through its bed without technical means.
The attraction of the gorge is undoubtedly the last and tallest waterfall reaching 40m in height, where most visitors to the gorge end up. Especially in winter and after heavy rain, the waterfall becomes double, and the sight is truly unique.
Access to the Mylonas waterfall is along the old concrete trench that once led the water to lower levels. The beginning of this path is reached by a dirt road that starts from the beach of Kakia Skala.
